Philadelphia, USA —
Sierra Leoneans in Pennsylvania, Delaware Valley, New Jersey, and New York came out in numbers to the dinner table to meet with the All People’s Congress (APC) leadership hopeful Dr. Richard Konteh.
In a rousing address delivered over the weekend at the Folcroft Banquet Hall, Pennsylvania, United States. Dr. Richard vows to unite Sierra Leone and unveil an ambitious and unifying vision aimed at healing Sierra Leone’s long-standing divisions and charting a new course for inclusive progress. The initiative, titled “The Unifier, We all Nar One”, promises to bridge regional, ethnic, and generational gaps through grassroots dialogue, economic reform, and a renewed national identity.
Dr. Konteh, a respected figure known for his work in community mediation and economic reform, emphasized that unity must go beyond symbolism. “We are stronger when we listen, learn, and lead together,” he told an energized crowd representing all twelve districts. “This is not about one man’s ambition — it’s about our shared destiny.”
The proposed roadmap includes youth empowerment initiatives, infrastructure investment in historically marginalized provinces, and the establishment of a national reconciliation forum to address lingering wounds from the country’s civil conflict.
Community leaders expressed cautious optimism. Mariama Kallon, a community member in Philly from Bo, noted, “The message is powerful. If he delivers on these promises, Sierra Leone could turn a historic corner.”
Dr. Konteh plan faces challenges — economic disparity, political fragmentation, and the pressures of a growing youth population among them. Still, his call for unity has stirred a sense of possibility among many who’ve long felt disillusioned by politics.
As the momentum builds, all eyes will be on how this vision translates into action and whether Sierra Leone is ready to embrace a new chapter.
Dr. Richard Konteh was first appointed to Cabinet as Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development by President Ernest Bai Koroma shortly after his election on 17 September 2007. He was later appointed Minister of Trade and Industry in 2010, and Chief of Staff in the Office of the President in 2013.
