Acting President of the Western Region Athletics Association, Swahib Bangura, has stated that the region is in massive preparation for this year’s Boxing Day sports event.
Speaking at a meeting held on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the Police Field in Kingtom, Bangura stressed that the Western Region, the largest under the Sierra Leone Athletics Association, will ensure that issues experienced during last year’s event are not repeated. He assured the national executive of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association that they would take comprehensive care of the Western Region’s interests this year, particularly as the Boxing Day sports will feature championship events.
He said a follow-up meeting is scheduled for next month to finalize details, including the allocation of resources for athletes, aiming to prevent any confusion before the competition.
Bangura also revealed plans for a coaching course for regional coaches ahead of the Boxing Day Sports, underlining the importance of professional development in the region.
“Early next year, two inter-area athletics competitions will be held at Aberdeen and Goderich, along with plans for a walking race and a marathon,” he revealed.
Bangura presented a set of cones to the coaches participating in the training course, affirming that this support is essential for the region’s athletics development.
