British Royal Navy ship ARGUS BELFAST A135 has docked at the Queen Elizabeth Quay 11 Freetown seaport to help in the fight against Ebola.
According to Donal Brown head of Joint Inter-Task Force (JIATF) team in Sierra Leone said the ship is loaded with aid, 32 pick-up trucks supply vehicles, three Merlin helicopters, which will be used to transport staff, medicines and equipment.
Also on board are doctors, nurses, Engineers and military personnel that will work effectively and double the capability of the existing personnel in Sierra Leone.
Chief of Staff on board, Argus Ross Spooner said, the crew will support the medical team on ground and also has the ability to move Ebola affected people quickly from remote areas to treatment Centres.
He also disclosed that in the event any of their personnel is infected with Ebola, plans are in place for that individual to be treated at Kerry Town.
Captain David Eagle, said the journey to Freetown is an historical one and with the excessive training done on board during the journey, he believes the crew are prepared to work in road and Treatment Centres construction and will also provide aid to personnel involved in road accident and snakes bite.
Receiving the crew, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Ebola Response Center (NERC) Rtd. Maj. Palo Conteh thanked the British and their Government for the great gesture, as it is timely.
He also said the government had their own plans in the war against Ebola, so all coming to help, will plug in to and called on Sierra Leoneans to obey all the instructions given by the Medical people.
